Services Offered by Student Support Services
Academic Counseling: Students are required to schedule academic counseling sessions twice per semester. Academic counseling helps students to solve personal problems, make social adjustments, and develop an awareness of education and career goals.
Pre-Academic Advisement: Prior to advisement appointments, students can meet with SSS counselors to review college department requirements, receive assistance with course selection and plan their semester schedules.
UCOL 101: The SSS section of “UCOL 101” is reserved for TRiO students. The focus of the course is to orient students to university life and develop study skills. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and behaviors critical for academic and personal success.
Individualized Tutoring: SSS participants are eligible for individualized tutoring sessions in core curriculum and foundational gateway courses.
Workshops: SSS workshops help students learn how to balance social, academic and personal demands during college. They also provide opportunities to enhance study skills, develop professionally, and learn about campus resources.
College Success Seminars: College Success Seminars are designed to provide first and second year students with information for adjustment and study skills to improve classroom success.
Financial Aid Assistance: SSS staff offers assists students with completing the FASFA application, as well as seeking and applying for scholarships.
Peer Mentoring: Successful undergraduate and graduate students assist new SSS students with their transition to college. Peer mentors provide guidance, advice and support throughout their undergraduate careers.
Textbook Borrowing: SSS students can check out available textbooks free of charge beginning the second semester of their first year in the program. Textbooks are checked-out each semester on a first come first serve basis.
Computer Lab: The SSS computer lab is open M-R for program participants to complete homework and print free of charge.
Cultural and Social Activities: SSS students have an opportunity to attend a variety of social and cultural events, including: plays and live performances, concerts, dinners, bowling, and game nights. Cultural and social activities provide an opportunity for SSS students to network, develop an appreciation for diversity, and promote personal and social development.
